PLACES OF INTEREST IN THE GREAT SOUTHERN The Great Southern Region has something for everyone. Events to be enjoyed include the annual Porongurup Progressive Wine Tasting and Porongurup Wine Festival, held in March and the annual Porongurup Art in the Park exhibition, held in April and set in the magnificent setting of the Porongurup National Park. Explore historic Albany, Western Australia's first settlement - go swimming, fishing, diving or whale watching, take in Whaleworld, the Forts, old Gaol, Residency Museum, the Amity Brig replica, the Wind Farm, the Farmers Markets and the Sandalwood Factory. Visit Mount Barker - it's unique Banksia Farm, St. Werburgh's Chapel and the Old Police Station Museum, which houses the Plantagenet Historical Society, featuring much of Mt Barker's heritage.
